21st BMBRI Triennial Barley Improvement Meeting

The 21st BMBRI Triennial Barley Improvement Meeting is scheduled to be held in Guelph, Ontario on Wednesday, June 23 and Thursday, June 24, 2010, in conjunction with the Ontario District MBAA Annual Barley Field Day.

MEETING LOCATION
The Triennial Barley Improvement Meeting will take place at the Best Western Royal Brock Hotel and Conference Centre, 716 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario.

CONFIRMATION OF ATTENDANCE
We do need to know who will be attending in order to finalize arrangements, and ask that all who plan to attend respond by Friday May 7, 2010.  Respond to Michael Brophy mbrophy@bmbri.ca  at BMBRI.  Please also indicate whether or not you would like to attend the Barley Field Day tour on Thursday, June 24.  A head count is required to confirm accommodation and local travel arrangements.

HOTEL and FOOD
A block of rooms is available to attendees at the Best Western Royal Brock Hotel and Conference Centre, 716 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario (1-519-8361240 or 1-800 563 9240) at the rate of $99/night for a Queen room, double occupancy (before taxes but including breakfast and internet). These rates are available for the nights of June 22, 23 and 24. Please quote “BMBRI Meeting” when making your reservation.  Please note the hotel will hold this block of rooms until May 21.  We strongly urge those of you planning to attend the Triennial Meeting to reserve early. The Best Western Royal Brock hotel is close to the University of Guelph and downtown.  Attendees are responsible for their own room reservation and travel costs to and from Guelph.  
Lunch and evening meal on June 23, plus lunch during the tours on June 24, will be provided by BMBRI and MBAA hosts.

MEETING OUTLINE
(A more detailed program will be distributed in early May)

Wednesday June 23, 2010   - Triennial Meeting Technical Sessions at Best Western Royal Brock Hotel and Conference Center           

8:45 AM to Noon:
- Welcome by BMBRI ad Ontario District MBAA
- Technical Session with panel presentations and discussions in malting barley research and breeding, focusing on innovations and advances that benefit growers, maltsters and brewers

Noon – 1:15 PM:  Lunch in meeting room at Best Western

1:15 PM – 4:00 PM:
- Open meeting of BMBRI Technical Committee, with input expected from all attendees, focusing on new challenges and opportunities to be addressed by research and development within the industry. 

4:15 PM to 5:15 PM:
Closed business meeting of BMBRI Technical Committee

5:30 PM and evening:
Bus pick up at hotel to local establishment for evening meal hosted by BMBRI and its members, followed by pub crawl in Guelph to sample local brews.

Thursday June 24, 2010 – Ontario District MBAA Barley Field Day

9 AM: 
- Bus pick-up at hotel to rendezvous with local attendees at malt rail transfer facility, followed by a visit to University of Guelph field station at Elora.

- Noon to early PM.  BBQ lunch hosted by Ontario MBAA/Canada Malting

- Mid/late afternoon.  Visit a local food barley company and/or brewery

- Evening.  Free for informal social gatherings for those staying on in Guelph
